The Challenge

One publication. Many different stories.

DOH-Escambia's Year in Review brings together information from programs with very different audiences, responsibilities and content needs.

Some sections are narrative-driven. Others depend on statistics, photography, program accomplishments, financial information, future priorities or operational data.

The challenge was to create a visual framework flexible enough to accommodate that variety while maintaining one recognizable, cohesive publication from beginning to end.

Building the System

Consistency without forcing every page into the same template.

Rather than relying on one rigid page structure, I developed a modular editorial system that could expand, contract and shift based on the needs of each program while retaining consistent typography, color, hierarchy and recurring content elements.

Information Design

Making complex information easier to scan and understand.

Large numerical callouts, charts, icons, grouped statistics and clear levels of hierarchy give readers multiple ways to enter data-heavy content without losing the larger story.

Visual Storytelling

Different content calls for different visual solutions.

Some sections benefit from large-scale photography and a more editorial pace. Others require structured modules that balance narrative, images, statistics and program outcomes. The system gives each story room to communicate in the way that fits it best.

  • Information hierarchy and data visualization
  • Photography selection and image treatment
