Brand Strategy + Naming + Identity + Campaign Design
RESET
Small Steps, Big Change
Rebranding a national diabetes prevention program into a locally relevant identity designed to make prevention feel approachable, actionable and achievable.
The Challenge
An effective program that needed a stronger local connection.
RESET is part of the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program, an evidence-based lifestyle change program for people with prediabetes or at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
Locally, the existing PreventT2 identity was not creating the level of emotional connection needed to support enrollment and long-term participation. The opportunity was to build a more approachable identity while remaining aligned with established public health standards.
Enrollment decline before the rebrand
Enrollment in Escambia County's PreventT2 program declined 41% between 2021 and 2022, creating a clear need for a different outreach approach.
Brand Strategy
Changing the conversation from prevention to possibility.
I helped develop the RESET identity from the ground up, including the program name, positioning, visual identity and campaign system. The goal was to shift the conversation from a clinical warning about disease to an encouraging idea: meaningful change can begin with one manageable step.
Approachable
RESET replaces institutional language with a familiar, positive idea: beginning again and taking control of what comes next.
Action-Oriented
“Small Steps, Big Change” reinforces the program's behavior-change model by making progress feel practical rather than overwhelming.
Locally Relevant
The new identity gave the program a recognizable local presence while remaining connected to established public health standards.
Identity Design
Visualizing progress without promising perfection.
The identity is built around a series of segmented, cascading circles. The interrupted forms suggest movement, progress and the process of breaking established patterns while continuing forward.
The circular movement also creates a subtle connection to flow and waves, grounding the identity in the coastal environment of Escambia County without relying on literal regional imagery.
Progress
The segmented forms represent incremental movement rather than an all-or-nothing transformation.
Movement
Cascading arcs create energy and reinforce the idea that small actions can continue building over time.
Flexibility
Responsive logo variations allow the identity to remain recognizable across large-format, print, digital and promotional applications.
Brand System
Familiar enough to belong. Distinct enough to be remembered.
The visual system balances the requirements of public health communication with a more welcoming local identity. Blues and greens connect the program to health, vitality and the coastal environment while supporting consistent application across campaign materials.
Integrated Campaign
The identity had to work far beyond the logo.
RESET became a flexible campaign system spanning public outreach, environmental media, participant materials, digital communication and promotional applications.
Implementation
One identity across every point of contact.
The campaign was designed as a system rather than a collection of unrelated pieces. The same visual language needed to remain clear at billboard scale, on transit, in participant materials, online and on small promotional items.
Marketing + Outreach
Flyers, brochures, billboards, transit advertising and community-facing campaign materials.
Digital Communication
Web and social media graphics supporting awareness, recruitment and program visibility.
Participant + Promotional
Educational materials and branded items that extended recognition beyond the initial campaign message.
Results
The rebrand did more than create recognition. It supported participation.
Increase in enrollment
By August 2023, after several months of targeted outreach following the refreshed campaign launch, program enrollment increased 185%.
Sustained momentum
Enrollment remained steady through 2024 and 2025, demonstrating that the initial increase was not limited to the launch period.
Increased participation also helped the local program meet CDC recognition criteria for completion and retention, supporting continued visibility through the national “Find a Program” resource.
Outcome
A local identity built for behavior change.
RESET transformed a nationally established prevention program into a locally recognizable experience without losing the credibility or purpose behind the original program.
The project became more than a visual rebrand. Naming, positioning, identity, messaging and campaign applications were developed as one connected communication system, allowing the program to move consistently from awareness to outreach to participant engagement.
